The Philadelphia 76ers didn’t get a lot of production from their rookies in 2012-13

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page,General,Rookie Report by joelapinski on Tuesday 23 April 2013 at 6:15 pm

The Sixers didn’t get much production out of their rookies in 2012-13, but that doesn’t mean that they won’t down the road.  22-year old forward Arnett Moultrie appears to have a nice upside.  He played in 47 games (0 starts) for the 76ers last year and he averaged 11.5 minutes, 3.7 points, 3.1 rebounds and 0.2 assists per game.  In his 10 games (0 starts) in which he played at least 20 minutes, Moultrie averaged 24.2 minutes, 9.4 points, 6.6 rebounds and 0.5 assists per game.  24-year old guard Justin Holiday is Jrue’s brother.  He played in 9 games (0 starts) for the Sixers last year and he averaged 15.8 minutes, 4.7 points, 1.6 rebounds and 1.7 assists per game.  He only shot 33% from the floor and 25% from the three point line for the 76ers this year.  21-year old point guard Maalik Wayns started the 2012-13 with the Sixers, but he finished it with the Clippers.  Wayns played in 21 games (1 start) for the Sixers last year and he averaged 7.9 minutes, 2.7 points, 0.2 rebounds and 1.0 assist per game.  He played in 27 games (1 start) overall for the Sixers and Clippers last year and he averaged 7.5 minutes, 2.8 points, 0.3 rebounds and 1.0 assist per game.

The Philadelphia 76ers had a rough season in 2012-13

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page,General,Season Reviews by joelapinski on Saturday 20 April 2013 at 2:00 pm

Things didn’t go as planned for the 76ers in 2012-13.  They finished up the season with a 34-48 record as they finished tied for last in the Atlantic Division with the Raptors, 20 games behind the New York Knicks.  Here are the players that made the biggest impacts in my opinion for the 76ers in 2012-13:

Team MVP – Jrue Holiday – 22-year old point guard Jrue Holiday turned in his best season yet in 2012-13 for the Sixers.  He played in 78 games (all starts) for the Sixers this year and he averaged 37.5 minutes, 17.7 points, 4.2 rebounds, 8.0 assists and 1.6 steals per game.  Holiday shot 43.1% from the floor, 36.8% from the three point line and 75.2% from the free throw line this year….so he could improve his shooting a little bit in the near future.  Holiday had 20 double-doubles and 1 triple-double this year for the Sixers.  He is the player the 76ers are going to build around for the future.

Biggest Surprise:  Spencer Hawes – 24-year old center Spencer Hawes stepped up when the Sixers put him into the starting lineup.  He played in 82 games (40 starts) for the Sixers this year and he averaged 27.2 minutes, 11.0 points, 7.2 rebounds, 2.2 assists and 1.4 blocked shots per game.  He had 19 double-doubles in 2012-13.  In his 40 starts for the Sixers this year, he averaged 31.1 minutes, 12.2 points, 8.4 rebounds, 2.9 assists and 1.5 blocked shots per game.

Biggest Disappointment:  Andrew Bynum – On August 10th, the Sixers dealt Andre Iguodala to the Nuggets and Moe Harkless, Nikola Vucevic and a future first round pick to the Magic for shooting guard Jason Richardson and 25-year old center Andrew Bynum.  Bynum played in 60 games (all starts) in 2011-12 for the Lakers and he averaged 35.2 minutes, 18.7 points, 11.8 rebounds, 1.4 assists and 1.9 blocked shots per game.  Bynum was the guy the Sixers built around and he didn’t play one game in 2012-13 due to knee surgery.  Now he’s going to be a free agent.  What a waste.

Doug Collins steps down as the head coach of the Philadelphia 76ers

Blogged under Big Sixers News,Bloglockers,Coaching,Front Page,General by joelapinski on Thursday 18 April 2013 at 7:44 pm

61-year old Doug Collins has stepped down as the head coach of the Philadelphia 76ers.  He will get a different job within the organization for the 2013-14 season.  Collins led the 76ers to  a very disappointing 34-48 (41.5%) record in 2012-13.  Collins was 110-120 (47.8%) during the regular season and 8-10 (44.4%) in the playoffs in his three years as the head coach of the Sixers.  Collins is now 442-407 (52.1%) during the regular season and 23-33 (41.1%) in the playoffs during his first 11 years as an NBA head coach.  The Sixers’ problems definitely were not all Collins’ fault….that being said, it will be nice for the new coach to take the Sixers back in the right direction (hopefully).

Arnett Moultrie is finally getting to play some in April for the Philadelphia 76ers

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page,General,Rookie Report,Steppin Up by joelapinski on Wednesday 17 April 2013 at 2:17 am

22-year old rookie power forward Arnett Moultrie is finally getting a chance to show what he can do in April.  Moultrie has played in 8 games (0 starts) so far in April for the 76ers and he is averaging 16.6 minutes, 5.4 points, 3.9 rebounds and 0.3 assists per game.  Moultrie is shooting 20 of 27 (74.1%) from the floor so far this month, as he is red hot right now.  He has now played in 46 games (0 starts) overall this year for the Sixers and he is averaging 11.2 minutes, 3.5 points, 2.9 rebounds and 0.2 assists per game.  He should get to play a lot in tomorrow night’s 2012-13 season finale.

24-year old power forward Thaddeus Young has really stepped up in 2012-13 for the 76ers.  He has played in 73 games (all starts) so far this year for the Sixers and he is averaging 34.9 minutes, 15.0 points, 7.5 rebounds, 1.6 assists and 1.7 steals per game.  He has shot well from the floor so far this year (53%), but not so good from the free throw line (57.2%).  Young has 21 double-doubles so far this year, as he has been solid in the paint for the Sixers.  After two years of coming off the bench, Young made a strong statement for starting for the foreseeable future.

Blogged under Bloglockers,Comings & Goings,Front Page,General by joelapinski on Monday 1 April 2013 at 7:19 pm

The 76ers have waived 26-year old shooting guard Jeremy Pargo.  Pargo played in 14 games (0 starts) for the 76ers this year and he averaged 14.9 minutes, 4.9 points, 1.2 rebounds and 2.0 assists per game.  He has played in 39 games (11 starts) overall this year for the Sixers and Cavaliers in which he has averaged 16.8 minutes, 6.8 points, 1.3 rebounds and 2.4 assists per game.  Pargo’s roster spot was needed for Jrue Holiday’s brother (Justin), who was signed earlier today.

The Philadelphia 76ers sign Justin Holiday

Blogged under Big Sixers News,Bloglockers,Comings & Goings,Front Page,General by joelapinski on Monday 1 April 2013 at 7:14 pm

The 76ers have signed 23-year old shooting guard Justin Holiday.  He played in 47 games (42 starts) for the Idaho Stampede this year and he averaged 34.7 minutes, 17.3 points, 5.3 rebounds, 2.5 assists, 2.4 steals and 1.2 blocked shots per game.  Holiday is Jrue Holiday’s brother, so this move has to make him happy.  He will have a couple of weeks to show what he can do in the NBA.
