The Philadelphia Phillies place Jon Lieber on the DL
Just when you think the Phillies pitching situation can’t get any worse, Jon Lieber ruptures a tendon in his right foot. Lieber will be out until at least September and maybe the remainder of the season. Lieber pitched in 14 games (12 starts) and he was 3-6 with a 4.73 ERA and a 1.45 WHIP. He has thrown 78 innings this season and he allowed 91 hits, walked 22 batters and whiffed 54. The Phillies will need to make a move for a starting pitcher as they really don’t have anyone in the minors ready to contribute. The Phillies have recalled Clay Condrey to replace Lieber on the roster. Condrey has pitched in 12 games this season with the Phillies and he’s 2-0 with a 9.00 ERA and a 1.93 WHIP. In 15 innings for the Phils this season, Condrey has allowed 22 hits, walked 7 batters and whiffed 10.
