The Phillies have signed third baseman Pedro Feliz to a 2-year contract. The 32-year old righty swinging Feliz is a huge improvement on defense over Greg Dobbs and Wes Helms who will both be coming off of the bench this season. Feliz played in 150 games last season for the Giants and he was 141 for 557 (.253 avg, .708 OPS) with 61 runs scored, 20 homers and 72 RBIs. Feliz has now played in 874 games in his major league career and he is 716 for 2,840 (.252 avg, .721 OPS) with 346 runs scored, 109 homers and 418 RBIs. This was a good move for the Phillies as Feliz will likely hit 20-30 homers and play solid defense in 2008.

Was moving Brett Myers back into the rotation the right move for the Philadelphia Phillies?

Brett Myers was outstanding as the closer for the Phillies last season as he pitched in 48 games in relief and he was 5-5 with 21 saves, a 2.87 ERA and a 1.20 WHIP. Still, the Phillies figured that Myers was better than anyone in the free agent class this year as a starter so they made the move for Brad Lidge with the idea of moving Myers back into the rotation. Myers has pitched in 192 games (143 starts) in his major league career and he is 59-47 with 21 saves, a 4.34 ERA and a 1.35 WHIP.

The Phillies have traded outfielder Chris Roberson to the Orioles for a big wad of cash. Roberson wasn’t going to make the Phillies this season anyway with the depth they have in the outfield so they did him a favor by trading him. Roberson played in 85 games for the Phillies in his career and he was 16 for 69 (.232 avg, .515 OPS) with 15 runs scored, 2 RBIs and 5 stolen bases.
