The Philadelphia Phillies sign Kris Benson
The Phillies have signed 33-year old righty starter Kris Benson to a minor league contract. Benson last pitched in 2006 with the Orioles as he missed all of last season due to rotator cuff surgery. He has now pitched in 195 games (all starts) in his major league career and he is 68-73 with a 4.34 ERA and a 1.38 WHIP. Look for Benson to win a job in the Phillies starting rotation as long as he proves his health in spring training.
I don’t really understand this signing other then its a small minor league move. He doesn’t offer a great record, or ERA and has just come off a tough surgery. I like some of our off-season moves, but this one does not get me super excited for spring training…

I agree with you Sam. Benson at his best is no better than a #4 or #5 starter.
