The Philadelphia Phillies designate Wes Helms for assignment
The Phillies now have 10 days to trade or release Wes Helms who they signed to be the starting 3B for the 2007 season and he failed miserably. He played in 112 games for the Phillies last season and he was 69 for 280 (.246 avg, .665 OPS) with 21 runs scored, 5 homers and 39 RBIs. Helms has now played in 771 games in his major league career and he is 498 for 1,882 (.265 avg, .761 OPS) with 199 runs scored, 63 homers and 265 RBIs. Don’t look for anyone to trade for Helms but he should have little trouble finding a job as a free agent.
UPDATE: Wes Helms has been sold to the Florida Marlins for a wad of cash.
I HAD HIGH HOPES FOR WES HELMS BUT HE WAS A GREAT DISAPPOINTMENT. WES IS GONE AND HE SHOULD GIVE THE PHILLIES BACK ALL THE MONEY HE TOOK FOR DOING NEXT TO NOTHING! SHAME ON WES HELMS! I HAVE BEEN A PHILLIES FAN AND HISTORIAN FOR 48 YEARS AND I ALWAYS SHALL BE!!!!!!!
You are right Alphonse. Helms will make no one forget Mike Schmidt……that’s for sure! He seemed to play 3B with an iron mitt. The Phillies won’t miss him one bit.
