Philadelphia Phillies vs. Milwaukee Brewers

The Phillies are in good shape heading into this series with the Brewers. The Phillies will out hit the Brewers in this series with Ryan Howard, Chase Utley and Jimmy Rollins leading the way. OFs Pat Burrell, Shane Victorino and Jayson Werth will add backup to the big three in the batting order. Watch for Matt Stairs pinch hitting in this series as he has hit very well since coming over in a trade with the Blue Jays. Cole Hamels, Jamie Moyer, Joe Blanton and Brett Myers give the Phillies a edge in the starting rotation in this series but the bullpen is where the Phillies have a huge edge in this series. Brad Lidge was 41 for 41 in save opportunities this season and with Ryan Madson, J.C. Romero and Chad Durbin pitching in front of him the Phillies should be able to protect more leads than the Brewers can.

The Phillies have designated lefty R.J. Swindle for assignment to make room on the roster for some promising youngsters. Swindle pitched in 3 games (0 starts) for the Phillies this season and he was 0-0 with a 7.71 ERA and a 2.36 WHIP. The only thing that Swindle has going for him right now is that he’s a lefty so some team will pick him up.

The Philadelphia Phillies sign 2B Tadihito Iguchi

The Phillies jumped at the chance to bring back Tadihito Iguchi after he was released by the Padres. Iguchi filled in with flying colors for the injured Chase Utley last season and the Phillies did not forget that. Iguchi played in 45 games for the Phillies last season and he was 42 for 138 (.304 avg, .803 OPS) with 22 runs scored, 3 homers, 12 RBIs and 6 stolen bases. The Phillies hope that saving Iguchi from the cavern called Petco Park will revive his bat. He played in 81 games for the Padres this season and he was 70 for 303 (.231 avg, .596 OPS) with 29 runs scored, 2 homers, 24 RBIs and 8 stolen bases. To make room on the 40-man roster for Iguchi the Phillies have designated infielder Oscar Robles for assignment. Robles played in 107 games in AAA ball this season and he was 90 for 362 (.249 avg, .640 OPS) with 34 runs scored, 4 homers and 48 RBIs. This was a outstanding signing for the Phillies as Iguchi will likely help them down the stretch.
