The Phillies rode Cole Hamels brilliant performance to a Game #1 win over the Brewers. He worked the first 8 innings of the game yesterday allowing only 2 hits, walking 1 batter and whiffing 9 (he was the winning pitcher). Brad Lidge finished up the game working the 9th inning but it wasn’t easy. In his 1 inning, Lidge allowed 2 hits, 1 earned run, walked 1 batter and whiffed 3 in converting his 42nd save this season without blowing any. The Phillies only had 4 hits in this game but it was enough to win the game. Chase Utley had the big hit which was a 2-run double. It was his only hit but he also scored a run. The Brewers didn’t want any part of Ryan Howard as they walked him in 3 of his 4 at bats in the playoff opener. The Phillies are now up 1-0 in this series.
