The Philadelphia Phillies claim Scott Nestor off waivers from the Marlins
The Phillies have kept busy despite making the playoffs by adding 24-year old righty reliever Scott Nestor from the Marlins. Nestor was the Marlins’ #25 prospect heading into this season according to Baseball America but he was awful in AAA. Nestor pitched in 55 games (0 starts) in AAA ball this season and he was 1-1 with a 7.44 ERA and a 1.67 WHIP. Nestor does appear to have great stuff as he whiffed 64 batters and allowed only 54 hits in 61.2 innings this season, but, he also walked 49 batters which got him into a lot of trouble. If the Phillies can get Nestor to throw strikes they might have something here. To make room on the roster for Nestor the Phillies have released 27-year old Francisco Rosario. He started 3 games in A-ball for the Phillies this season and he was 0-0 with a 6.75 ERA and a 0.75 WHIP.
