The Phillies got off to a good start Thursday Night against the Dodgers as homers by Chase Utley and Pat Burrell made the strong pitching of Cole Hamels stand up in this game. Utley was 2 for 4 with 1 run scored, a homer and 2 RBIs in this game while Pat Burrell was 2 for 3 with 1 run scored, a homer and 1 RBI. Catcher Carlos Ruiz also had a good game with the bat for the Phillies as he was 2 for 3. Cole Hamels was outstanding in this game as he worked the first 7 innings allowing 6 hits and 2 earned runs while walking only two batters and whiffing 8 to earn the win. Ryan Madson worked a scoreless 8th inning to protect the Phillies narrow lead and get it to closer Brad Lidge. Lidge earned the save working a scoreless 9th inning for the Phillies. The Phillies are now up 1-0 in this series.
