36-year old lefty swinging Raul Ibanez is taking over for the departed Pat Burrell in LF in 2009. Ibanez played in all 162 games for the Mariners last season and he was 186 for 635 (.293 avg, .837 OPS) with 85 runs scored, 23 homers and 110 RBIs. Look for Ibanez’ power to increase due to his new home field. Ibanez played in 153 games in LF for the Mariners last season and he made 5 errors while showing pretty good range. Ibanez also had 9 assists last season and he should be a huge improvement over Pat Burrell defensively in LF.
41-year old lefty swinging Matt Stairs will back up both the starting corner outfielders for the Phillies in 2009. Stairs played in 121 games for the Blue Jays and Phillies last season in which he was 85 for 337 (.252 avg, .750 OPS) with 46 runs scored, 13 homers and 49 RBIs. Stairs didn’t make any errors in 9 games in LF last season but he showed absolutely terrible range.
34-year old righty swinging Pablo Ozuna might also make the Phillies in 2009. He played in 68 games for the Dodgers and White Sox last season in which he was 25 for 96 (.260 avg, .634 OPS) with 11 runs scored, 1 homer, 9 RBIs and 1 stolen base. Ozuna has played in 309 games in his major league career and he has a batting average of .282 with a .677 OPS.
