The Phillies expect defense and pitcher management out of the catchers. Any offense they add will be a bonus for the Phillies. Carlos Ruiz played in 107 games for the Phillies this season and he was 82 for 322 (.255 avg, .780 OPS) with 32 runs scored, 9 homers and 43 RBIs. He got some really key hits for the Phillies last season in the playoffs and World Series and they hope he can do it again. He has played in 17 post season games in his career and he is 15 for 55 (.273 avg, .755 OPS) with 7 runs scored, 1 homer, 4 RBIs and 2 stolen bases. Paul Bako is almost what you would call a defense only catcher. He played in 44 games for the Phillies this season and he was 26 for 116 (.224 avg, .644 OPS) with 12 runs scored, 3 homers and 9 RBIs. Bako has played in 17 games in his post season career and he is 6 for 31 (.194 avg, .641 OPS) with 5 runs scored, 1 homer and 5 RBIs.
