The Philadelphia Phillies have a lot of question marks in the pen

The Phillies will go with Ryan Madson as the closer during the post season. He pitched in 79 games for the Phillies this season and he was 5-5 with 10 saves, a 3.26 ERA and a 1.23 WHIP. He didn’t close in the post season last year but he was very effective for the Phillies. He has pitched in 11 games out of the pen in his career in the post season and he is 1-0 with a 2.13 ERA and a 0.87 WHIP. Madson has whiffed 12 batters while only walking 1 in 12 2/3 innings in this post season career so I think he will be able to handle the pressure of pitching in the 9th inning. There is no telling who will work the 8th inning for the Phillies this post season. It could be Brad Lidge the ex-closer who had a rough season. He pitched in 67 games for the Phillies this season and he was 0-8 with 31 saves, a 7.21 ERA and a 1.81 WHIP. Lidge has been effective in the post season however so the Phillies have their fingers crossed that he can handle the pressure. Lidge has pitched in 26 games in his post season career and he is 1-3 with 13 saves, a 2.10 ERA and a 1.02 WHIP. He has only allowed 23 hits in 34 1/3 innings in his post season career and he has whiffed 51 batters! Scott Eyre will be used quite a bit in the playoffs as he is the lone lefty in the bullpen unless the Phillies use J.A. Happ there. Eyre has pitched in 42 games for the Phillies this season and he was 2-1 with a 1.50 ERA and a 1.27 WHIP. He has also been really effective in his career in the post season working in 17 games in which he is 0-0 with a 0.96 ERA and a 1.50 WHIP. Brett Myers could also work his way into a important role in the bullpen for the Phillies. He pitched in 18 games (10 starts) for the Phillies this season and he was 4-3 with a 4.84 ERA and a 1.37 WHIP. Myers has pitched in 5 games (3 starts) in his post season career and he is 2-1 with a 4.43 ERA and a 1.33 WHIP. Chad Durbin will be one of the long men in the bullpen for the Phillies. He pitched in 59 games for the Phillies this season and he was 2-2 with 2 saves, a 4.39 ERA and a 1.48 WHIP. Durbin has pitched in 6 games out of the pen in his post season career and he is 0-0 with a 2.70 ERA and a 3.00 WHIP. But, Durbin has allowed 7 hits and he has walked 3 batters in only 3 1/3 innings in his playoff career. Kyle Kendrick made the post season roster for the Phillies by pitching well down the stretch. He pitched in 9 games (2 starts) for the Phillies this season and he was 3-1 with a 3.42 ERA and a 1.37 WHIP. Kendrick has started 1 game in his post season career and he was 0-1 with a 12.27 ERA and a 1.91 WHIP. Rookie Antonio Bastardo was the #11 rated prospect heading into this season according to Baseball America. He did not pitch like it however. He pitched in 6 games (5 starts) as a rookie this season and he was 2-3 with a 6.46 ERA and a 1.48 WHIP.
