The Philadelphia Phillies have a very deep and talented starting rotation

The Phillies have a sterling starting rotation with Cliff Lee, Cole Hamels, Joe Blanton, J.A. Happ and Pedro Martinez. Cliff Lee will be the #1 starter for the Phillies. He started 12 games after coming over in a trade with the Indians and he was 7-4 with a 3.39 ERA and a 1.13 WHIP. He doesn’t have any post season experience but he is a big game pitcher so he should do well. Fellow lefty Cole Hamels did not have a good season for the Phillies. He started 32 games this season and he was 10-11 with a 4.32 ERA and a 1.29 WHIP. But, he has proved to be a outstanding post season pitcher and the Phillies expect that to continue starting with Game #2 against the Rockies. He has started 6 games in his post season career and he is 4-1 with a 2.16 ERA and a 0.94 WHIP. He has only given up 26 hits in 41 2/3 innings in his post season career while whiffing 37 batters showing his dominance. The Phillies have not announced a starter for Game #3 but I’m betting on it being veteran righty Joe Blanton. Blanton started 31 games for the Phillies this year and he was 12-8 with a 4.05 ERA and a 1.32 WHIP. He has also been solid in the post season in his career. He has pitched in 4 games (3 starts) in his post season career and he is 2-0 with a 2.84 ERA and a 1.26 WHIP. Now if the Phillies need a #4 starter it will be interesting to see who they choose. Lefty J.A. Happ has been outstanding this season but the Phillies lack a 2nd lefty in the bullpen and veteran righty Pedro Martinez is a more battle tested post season pitcher. J.A. Happ has pitched in 35 games (23 starts) for the Phillies this season and he is 12-4 with a 2.93 ERA and a 1.23 WHIP. He has only pitched in 1 game out of the pen in the post season in his career and he was 0-0 with a 3.00 ERA and a 2.00 WHIP. Pedro Martinez has been very solid for the Phillies in the 2nd half of the season. He started 9 games for the Phillies this season and he was 5-1 with a 3.63 ERA and a 1.25 WHIP. In 13 games (11 starts) in his post season career he is 6-2 with a 3.40 ERA and a 1.12 WHIP.
