The Philadelphia Phillies have the best infield in the National League

Blogged under Bloglockers, Front Page, General, The Playoffs by chinmusic on Wednesday 7 October 2009 at 9:17 am

With the exception of the Yankees, the Phillies have the best infield in all of baseball. Ryan Howard is a absolute beast with a bat in his hands. He played in 160 games for the Phillies this season and he was 172 for 616 (.279 avg, .931 OPS) with 105 runs scored, 45 homers, 141 RBIs and 8 stolen bases. Howard has played in 17 games in his post season career and he is 17 for 64 (.266 avg, .882 OPS) with 9 runs scored, 4 homers and 10 RBIs. 2B Chase Utley gives the Phillies another outstanding bat on the infield. He played in 156 games for the Phillies this season and he was 161 for 571 (.282 avg, .905 OPS) with 112 runs scored, 31 homers, 93 RBIs and 23 stolen bases. He will need to step up in the post season however as he disappointed a bit last year. He has played in 17 games in his post season career and he is 13 for 61 (.213 avg, .787 OPS) with 10 runs scored, 3 homers, 9 RBIs and 3 stolen bases. SS Jimmy Rollins is hot right now which boosted his season stats making them look respectable. He played in 155 games this season for the Phillies and he was 168 for 672 (.250 avg, .719 OPS) with 100 runs scored, 21 homers, 77 RBIs and 31 stolen bases. Like Utley, the Phillies need to have him step up in the post season after last year’s performance. Rollins has played in 17 games in his post season career and he is 16 for 70 (.229 avg, .732 OPS) with 11 runs scored, 3 homers, 6 RBIs and 4 stolen bases. Pedro Feliz is a very slick 3B for the Phillies with the glove and he gets quite a few key hits. He played in 158 games for the Phillies this year and he was 154 for 580 (.266 avg, .692 OPS) with 62 runs scored, 12 homers and 82 RBIs. Feliz has now played in 22 games in his post season career and he is 13 for 54 (.241 avg, .564 OPS) with 2 runs scored and 5 RBIs.
