Philadelphia Phillies 8, Los Angeles Dodgers 6

This was a great game to open up the N.L.C.S. Cole Hamels didn’t have his best stuff as he struggled his way through 5 1/3 innings in which he allowed 8 hits (2 homers) and 4 earned runs but he was still the winning pitcher. Chad Durbin, J.A. Happ, Antonio Bastardo and Chan Ho Park combined to throw 1 2/3 shutout innings to get the ball to set up man Ryan Madson. Madson did not pitch too well in this game as he worked the 8th inning and he allowed 4 hits and 2 earned runs. Brad Lidge finished off the Dodgers with a shutout inning in the 9th to earn another save (his third in this post season). Ryan Howard got a key 2-run double in this game as he was 1 for 2 with a run scored. But it was Carlos Ruiz and Raul Ibanez who brought the whipping sticks in this game. Ruiz was 2 for 3 with 1 run, a homer and 3 RBIs. His homer was a bomb off of starting pitcher Clayton Kershaw and that hit helped set the tone for the Phillies. Raul Ibanez hit the big fly in the 8th inning to help seal this victory. He has 2 for 4 with 2 runs, 1 homer and 3 RBIs. The homer was off George Sherrill in the 8th inning. The Phillies are now up 1-0 in this series.
