The Phillies seemed to have this game almost in the bag heading into the 8th inning with a 1-0 lead. Pedro Martinez was awesome for the Phillies in this game as he worked the first 7 innings allowing only 4 hits, no runs and he didn’t even walk any batters. But, Chan Ho Park came into the game to start the 8th inning and he brought in a gas can. He worked only 1/3 of an inning but he allowed 2 hits and 2 earned runs. He was the losing pitcher. Still, Scott Eyre, Ryan Madson and J.A. Happ also contributed to this loss big time. They worked a combined 1/3 of an inning and they allowed 1 hit and walked 2 batters. Happ walked Andre Ethier with the bases loaded which scored Russell Martin with the game deciding run. It didn’t help that the Phillies could only muster 4 hits against Vicente Padilla, Hong-Chih Kuo and Jonathan Broxton. Ryan Howard led the way for the Phillies as he was 2 for 3 with a solo homer yesterday. Chase Utley (1 for 4) and Carlos Ruiz (1 for 2, SB) were the only other Phillies to get a hit besides Howard. The Phillies and Dodgers are now tied at 1 game apiece with the series switching to Philly.
