The Phillies have declined 34-year old righty swinging 3B Pedro Feliz’ option for the 2010 season valued at $5 million bucks instead buying him out for $500,000 bucks. Feliz played in 158 games for the Phillies last season and he was 154 for 580 (.266 avg, .694 OPS) with 62 runs scored, 12 homers and 82 RBIs. He played in 291 games in his two seasons in Philadelphia and he was 260 for 1,005 (.259 avg, .699 OPS) with 105 runs scored, 26 homers and 140 RBIs. The Phillies are going to be on the hunt to improve the 3B position offensively with likely targets in free agency being guys like Mark DeRosa and Adrian Beltre. Feliz will be a fall back option for the Phillies as they are not closing the door on him completely quite yet. Feliz has not really produced in the post season while in Philly and that could also be a factor in this decision. In 29 games for the Phillies in the post season the last two years, Feliz is 20 for 98 (.204 avg) with 6 runs scored, 2 homers and 8 RBIs.
