The Phillies have signed 33-year old lefty swinging catcher Brian Schneider to a 2-year, $2.75 million dollar contract. Schneider played in 59 games for the Phillies last season and he was 37 for 170 (.218 avg, .627 OPS) with 11 runs scored, 3 homers and 24 RBIs. Schneider has now played in 926 games in his 10 years in the majors and he is 709 for 2,826 (.251 avg, .697 OPS) with 247 runs scored, 59 homers and 356 RBIs. This was a good signing for the Phillies as Schneider is a very capable catcher who could start if Carlos Ruiz needs time off due to a injury.
