The Philadelphia Phillies DFA Scott Mathieson

The Phillies have designated 26-year old righty reliever/starter Scott Mathieson for assignment. He pitched in 1 game for the Phillies this year working 2/3 of an inning and allowing 3 hits and 2 earned runs. Mathieson also has pitched in 25 games (0 starts) in AAA-ball this year in which he is 2-2 with 12 saves, a 2.43 ERA and a 1.08 WHIP. He just never seemed to have it going whenever the Phillies have called him up. He has pitched in 10 games (8 starts) in his career with the Phillies and he is 1-4 with a 7.82 ERA and a 1.76 WHIP. I think some team will be willing to give something up for Mathieson.

How many pitching prospects can the Phillies afford to give up ? Sure hope the local kid they just drafted doesn’t end up going the same route !

The Phillies should have showed more patience with Mathieson who was pitching outstanding ball in AAA this year.
