The Philadelphia Phillies designate Greg Dobbs for assignment
The Phillies have designated 32-year old lefty swinging 1B/3B Greg Dobbs for assignment for the second time this year to make room on the roster for Chase Utley. Dobbs played in 76 games for the Phillies this year and he is 27 of 141 (.191 avg, .569 OPS) with 11 runs scored, 4 homers and 14 RBIs. Dobbs has played in 443 games in his four years with the Phillies and he is 221 of 845 (.262 avg, .738 OPS) with 101 runs scored, 28 homers, 129 RBIs and 8 stolen bases. I think Dobbs will accept a minor league assignment if he clears waivers because the Phillies would likely call him right back up when rosters expand September 1st.
