The Phillies got timely hitting and good pitching to prevail last night and extend the series as it comes back to Philly. Roy Halladay earned the win in this game by pitching six solid innings allowing 6 hits and 2 earned runs while walking 2 batters and whiffing 5. Jose Contreras and J.C. Romero combined to work a scoreless 7th inning. Ryan Madson was flat out dominating in this game as he worked a scoreless 8th inning whiffing all three batters that he faced. Brad Lidge worked a scoreless 9th inning allowing no baserunners or runs to earn the save. Jayson Werth was 1 for 4 with a solo homer in the top of the ninth inning to give Brad Lidge some breathing room. Placido Polanco was 1 for 3 with a RBI as he had a solid game. Chase Utley (1 for 4 with a SB) and Jimmy Rollins (1 for 4 with 2 SBs) also had decent games for the Phillies last night. The Phillies are down 3-2 in this series as they come home to Philly for Game #6 tomorrow.
