The Phillies have claimed 22-year old righty swinging shortstop Carlos Rivero off waivers from the Indians. Rivero played in 110 games in AA-ball last season and he was 94 of 406 (.232 avg, .603 OPS) with 39 runs scored, 6 homers and 43 RBIs. He has now played in 518 games in his first five years in the minors and he is 492 of 1,933 (.255 avg, .676 OPS) with 214 runs scored, 31 homers, 256 RBIs and 3 stolen bases. Rivero was the Indians’ #17 prospect heading into 2010 according to Baseball America so I like this pickup for the Phillies.
