The Phillies have signed 30-year old righty swinging catcher Erik Kratz to a minor league deal. Kratz played in 9 games for the Pirates last season in his first taste of the majors and he was 4 for 34 (.118 avg, .284 OPS) with 2 runs scored and 1 RBI. He also played in 70 games in AAA-ball last season and he was 63 of 230 (.274 avg, .875 OPS) with 30 runs scored, 9 homers and 41 RBIs. The Phillies will stash Kratz in AAA and give him a call if something happens to Carlos Ruiz or Brian Schneider in 2011.
