The Philadelphia Phillies sign Luis Castillo
The Phillies have signed 35-year old switch-hitting 2B Luis Castillo to a minor league deal. Castillo played in 86 games for the Mets last season and he was 58 of 247 (.235 avg, .604 OPS) with 28 runs scored, 17 RBIs and 8 stolen bases. He has now played in 1,720 games in his first 15 years in the majors and he is 1,889 of 6,510 (.290 avg, .719 OPS) with 1,001 runs scored, 28 homers, 443 RBIs and 370 stolen bases. Castillo will likely challenge for the starting job at 2B if Chase Utley has to start the 2011 season on the D.L. because of his bum knee.

Well John, it seems as if Castillo might be the starting 2B for the Phillies for a while. I think they could have done better without taking on much payroll.
