The Philadelphia Phillies release Luis Castillo
The Phillies have released 35-year old switch hitting 2B Luis Castillo. Castillo played in 18 games for the Mets & Phillies this spring and he was 14 of 50 (.280 avg, .668 OPS) with 12 runs scored, 3 RBIs and 1 stolen base. The Phillies decided that they were better off to go with Wilson Valdez as the starting 2B until Chase Utley returns to action. Castillo can only play 2B, so it wouldn’t have made much sense to keep him on the roster as a backup.
