Five starting players had really good weekends against the Astros. It all starts with the big fella, 1B Ryan Howard. Howard played in all 3 games over the weekend and he was 7 for 13 (.538 avg, 1.346 OPS) with 3 runs scored, 1 homer and 6 big RBIs. SS Jimmy Rollins is trying to forget a subpar, injury filled 2010, and he’s off to a good start. Rollins went 6 for 12 (.500 avg, 1.071 OPS) with 4 runs scored and 1 stolen base. He has been batting third in front of Ryan Howard, so the Phillies need him to get on base as often as possible. RF Ben Francisco is making the most of Domonic Brown’s injury as he was set to be a backup player this year. Francisco was 6 for 13 (.462 avg, 1.269 OPS) over the weekend with 4 runs scored, 1 homer and 4 RBIs. He wants to make the decision tough concerning RF when Domonic Brown gets healthy. 3B Placido Polanco was 5 for 12 (.417 avg, 1.083 OPS) with 5 runs scored over the weekend for the Phillies as he was pretty productive. 2B Wilson Valdez is off to a good start as Chase Utley’s replacement. He has played in 3 games for the Phillies so far this year and he is 4 for 11 (.364 avg, .818 OPS) with 2 RBIs. Anything the Phillies get from Valdez’ bat is a bonus as they mostly care about him playing good defense.
