Vance Worley will be moving to the bullpen for the Philadelphia Phillies for the playoffs

Blogged under Bloglockers, Front Page, General, Throwing Well by chinmusic on Tuesday 27 September 2011 at 2:01 pm

24-year old righty starting pitcher Vance Worley will be moving to the bullpen for the playoffs for the Phillies. He has pitched in 24 games (21 starts) for the Phillies so far this year and he is 11-3 with a 3.03 ERA and a 1.22 WHIP. Worley has now pitched in 29 games (23 starts) in his first two years in the majors and he is 12-4 with a 2.88 ERA and a 1.19 WHIP. Worley has been a huge asset to the Phillies this year as he really stepped up when Roy Oswalt and Joe Blanton went down to injury. I have a feeling that he is going to really help the Phillies out of the pen.

He has only given up 39 hits and walked 10 batters while whiffing 64 batters in his last 64 2/3 innings! He appears well tuned for the playoffs and the Phillies hope he keeps up the good work. Lee has now pitched in 31 games (all starts) for the Phillies this year and he is 16-8 with a 2.38 ERA and a 1.03 WHIP. The Phillies’ front office looks like they made a super decision in bringing Lee back into the fold last winter.

Major League Baseball has suspended 22-year old lefty swinging outfielder Zach Collier for 50 games for testing positive for amphetamines. Collier played in 112 games in A-ball this year and he was 106 for 416 (.255 avg, .676 OPS) with 50 runs scored, 1 homer, 36 RBIs and 35 stolen bases. This is going to really hurt Collier’s chance of getting to the majors down the road with the Phillies.

28-year old righty swinging RF Hunter Pence has been on fire since getting dealt from the Astros to the Phillies. Pence has played in 33 games for the Phillies so far and he is 40 for 126 (.317 avg, .933 OPS) with 23 runs scored, 7 homers and 20 RBIs. He has now played in 133 games overall this year for the Phillies & Astros and he is 163 for 525 (.310 avg, .853 OPS) with 72 runs scored, 18 homers, 82 RBIs and 7 stolen bases. Pence has given Ryan Howard awesome protection in the lineup and he fits in perfectly in Philly due to his all out effort on the field, running the bases and batting.
