The Philadelphia Phillies have seven impending free agents
The Phillies are going to have to make some tough decisions over the winter as they have seven players who are free agents after the World Series is over. Here is who I think will be leaving and staying out of this bunch:
Brian Schneider: 34-year old lefty swinging catcher Brian Schneider played in 34 games for the Phillies last year and he was 22 for 125 (.176 avg, .502 OPS) with 11 runs scored, 2 homers and 9 RBIs. The Phillies will be looking for cheaper alternatives to back up Carlos Ruiz over the winter. PREDICTION: LEAVING
Ross Gload: 35-year old lefty swinging 1B/OF Ross Gload played in 93 games for the Phillies last year and he was 29 for 113 (.257 avg, .603 OPS) with 3 runs scored, 0 homers and 8 RBIs. He didn’t produce enough to warrant bringing him back. PREDICTION: LEAVING
Jimmy Rollins: 32-year old switch-hitting shortstop Jimmy Rollins played in 144 games for the Phillies last year and he was 152 of 567 (.268 avg, .736 OPS) with 87 runs scored, 16 homers, 63 RBIs and 30 stolen bases. I don’t see the Phillies paying top dollar to Rollins as he isn’t the player he used to be. PREDICTION: LEAVING
Raul Ibanez: 39-year old lefty swinging LF Raul Ibanez played in 144 games for the Phillies last year and he was 131 of 535 (.245 avg, .707 OPS) with 65 runs scored, 20 homers, 84 RBIs and 2 stolen bases. PREDICTION: LEAVING
Roy Oswalt: 34-year old righty starting pitcher Roy Oswalt pitched in 23 games (all starts) for the Phillies last year and he was 9-10 with a 3.69 ERA and a 1.34 WHIP. The Phillies and Oswalt have a mutual option for 2012, valued at $16 million bucks with a $2 million dollar buyout. The Phillies already have decent replacements for him on the pitching staff. PREDICTION: LEAVING
Ryan Madson: 31-year old righty reliever Ryan Madson served as the Phillies’ closer in 2011 and he was solid. He pitched in 62 games (0 starts) for the Phillies in 2011 and he was 4-2 with 32 saves, a 2.37 ERA and a 1.15 WHIP. The Phillies are going to want to bring Madson back. PREDICTION: STAYING
Brad Lidge: 34-year old righty reliever Brad Lidge worked in 25 games (0 starts) for the Phillies last year and he was 0-2 with 1 save, a 1.40 ERA and a 1.50 WHIP. The Phillies have a club option on Lidge for 2012 valued at $12.5 million bucks with a $1.5 million dollar buyout. PREDICTION: LEAVING
