Dick Ruthven was a solid starting pitcher for the Philadelphia Phillies

Righty starting pitcher Dick Ruthven was with the Phillies for nine seasons, working in 207 games (198 starts) in which he was 78-65 with a 4.00 ERA and a 1.36 WHIP. His best season with the Phillies came back in 1978 when he worked in 20 games (all starts) in which he was 13-5 with a 2.99 ERA and a 1.09 WHIP. When the Phillies won the World Series in 1980, Ruthven pitched in 33 games (all starts) in which he was 17-10 with a 3.55 ERA and a 1.41 WHIP. Ruthven made it to his only All-Star Game with the Phillies in 1981 as he was 12-7 with a 5.15 ERA and a 1.47 WHIP. Ruthven is tied for #9 in Phillies’ history in games started with Tully Sparks with 198 of them. Ruthven was a solid starting pitcher for the Phillies.
