32-year old lefty swinging 1B Ryan Howard got back into action last night for the Phillies. He went 2 for 4 with a double. Howard has played in 1,028 games in his first 9 years for the Phillies and he is 1,045 of 3,798 (.275 avg, .928 OPS) with 633 runs scored, 286 homers, 864 RBIs and 12 stolen bases. 33-year old lefty swinging 2B Chase Utley has been back for a little over a week now. Utley has played in 8 games for the Phillies so far this year and he is 7 for 26 (.269 avg, .821 OPS) with 3 runs scored, 2 homers and 3 RBIs. Utley has now played in 1,117 games in his first 10 years with the Phillies and he is 1,205 of 4,159 (.290 avg, .882 OPS) with 734 runs scored, 190 homers, 697 RBIs and 110 stolen bases. The Phillies are 37-48 on the season now, which has them in last place in the N.L. East, 13 games behind the Washington Nationals. The Phillies are also 9 games behind the Cincinnati Reds in the Wild Card hunt. I think they need to make a run from now until the end of July, or they are likely going to be sellers at the trade deadline. So they need Howard and Utley to start healthy and productive to prevent a fire sale.
