The Philadelphia Phillies place Raul Valdes on the D.L.
The Phillies have placed 34-year old lefty reliever on the 15-day disabled list, but, he’s going to miss the rest of the 2012 season due to surgery on his right knee. Valdes pitched in 27 games (1 start) for the Phillies this year and he was 3-2 with a 2.90 ERA and a 0.74 WHIP. He only gave up 18 hits and 5 walks while whiffing 35 batters in only 31 innings and he was impressive this year for the Phillies. Valdes has now pitched in 78 games (2 starts) in his first three years in the majors and he is 6-6 with 1 save, a 4.07 ERA and a 1.27 WHIP. Based on the way he pitched for the Phillies this year, they should try to re-sign him over the winter.
