28-year old lefty starting pitcher Cole Hamels finished tied for 8th place in the N.L. Cy Young Award voting with Aroldis Chapman of the Reds. Hamels pitched in 31 games (all starts) for the Phillies in 2012 and he was 17-6 with a 3.05 ERA and a 1.12 WHIP. He gave up 190 hits and walked 52 batters while whiffing 216 in 215 1/3 very impressive innings. Hamels has now pitched in 212 games (211 starts) in his first 7 years with the Phillies and he is 91-60 with a 3.34 ERA and a 1.14 WHIP. The Phillies were very smart to lock up Hamels to a long term contract during the 2012 season.
