The Phillies have acquired 36-year old righty swinging 3B Michael Young and cash from the Texas Rangers for 25-year old righty reliever Josh Lindblom and 22-year old righty reliever/starter Lisalverto Bonilla. Young played in 156 games for the Rangers last year and he was 169 of 611 (.277 avg, .682 OPS) with 79 runs scored, 8 homers, 67 RBIs and 2 stolen bases. He has now played in 1,823 games in his first 13 years in the majors and he is 2,230 of 7,399 (.301 avg, .791 OPS) with 1,085 runs scored, 177 homers, 984 RBIs and 89 stolen bases. Young will take over as the Phillies’ starting 3B in 2013 and he might really benefit from a change in leagues as he can still rip fastballs. Josh Lindblom was part of the return from the Dodgers in the Shane Victorino deal last July. He pitched in 26 games (0 starts) for the Phillies last year and he was 1-3 with 1 save, a 4.63 ERA and a 1.54 WHIP. Lisalverto Bonilla was the Phillies’ #12 prospect when the 2012 season started according to Baseball America. Bonilla pitched in 31 games (0 starts) in A+AA-ball for the Phillies last year and he was 3-2 with 4 saves, a 1.55 ERA and a 1.12 WHIP. The Phillies paid a lot for Young (just like they did for Revere), so they better hope he has something left in the gas tank.
