The Phillies have signed 28-year old lefty starting pitcher John Lannan to a 1-year, $2.5 million dollar deal. Lannan pitched in 6 games (all starts) for the Nationals last year and he was 4-1 with a 4.13 ERA and a 1.44 WHIP. He has now pitched in 134 games (all starts) in his first six years in the majors and he is 42-52 with a 4.01 ERA and a 1.42 WHIP. Lannan will likely be the #5 starter for the Phillies in 2013, and I think he will be a solid one. This was a good pickup for the Phillies.

The Philadelphia Phillies sign Mike Adams

The Phillies have signed 34-year old righty reliever Mike Adams to a 2-year, $14 million dollar deal. Adams pitched in 61 games (0 starts) for the Rangers last year and he was 5-3 with 1 save, a 3.27 ERA and a 1.40 WHIP. He has now pitched in 358 games (0 starts) in his first eight years in the majors and he is 18-15 with 4 saves, a 2.28 ERA and a 1.06 WHIP. Adams will become Jonathan Papelbon’s new set-up man. I really like this pickup for the Phillies as Adams is a pretty darn good pitcher.
