Blogged under Arrivals & Departures, Bloglockers, Front Page, General by chinmusic on Wednesday 16 January 2013 at 10:28 am

The Phillies have signed 33-year old righty starting pitcher Aaron Cook to a minor league deal. Cook pitched in 18 games (all starts) for the Red Sox last year and he was 4-11 with a 5.65 ERA and a 1.47 WHIP. He didn’t miss many bats last year as he gave up 115 hits and he only whiffed 20 batters in 94 innings for the Red Sox in 2012. But, he does throw strikes as he only walked 21 batters last year. Cook has now pitched in 256 games (224 starts) in his first 11 years in the majors and he is 76-79 with a 4.60 ERA and a 1.47 WHIP. Cook will duke it out with John Lannan and Rodrigo Lopez this spring for the #5 job in the Phillies’ starting rotation.
