27-year old righty reliever Hector Neris has been incredible for the Philadelphia Phillies in 2016.  He has pitched in a National League leading 60 games (0 starts) so far this year for the Phillies and he is 4-3 with 1 save, a 2.35 ERA and a 1.01 WHIP.  Neris has given up 44 hits and 18 walks while whiffing 77 batters in his first 61 1/3 innings for the Phillies so far this year!  Since July 1st, Neris has pitched in 18 games (0 starts) for the Phillies in which he is 2-0 with a 1.50 ERA and a 0.83 WHIP.  Neris has now pitched in 93 games (0 starts) in his first three years with the Phillies and he is 7-5 with 1 save, a 2.89 ERA and a 1.07 WHIP.  Don’t be surprised if Neris is the Phillies’ closer down the road.  But for now, he will bide his time behind Jeanmar Gomez, who is having a career year in 2016 as the Phillies’ closer.

The Philadelphia Phillies place Zach Eflin on the D.L.

Blogged under Arrivals & Departures,Bloglockers,Front Page,General,Injuries by joelapinski on Tuesday 9 August 2016 at 3:54 pm

The Philadelphia Phillies have placed 22-year old righty starting pitcher Zach Eflin on the 15-day disabled list due to patellar tendinopathy in both knees.  He has really had a rough time in August, so it’s possible that he has been pitching hurt for a while.  In his 2 starts in August, Eflin was 0-1 with a 14.63 ERA and a 2.25 WHIP.  He came into this season as the Phillies’ #13 prospect according to Baseball America.  He has now pitched in 11 games (all starts) for the Phillies so far this year (in his first taste of the show) and he is 2-5 with a 5.54 ERA and a 1.33 WHIP.  He has given up 67 hits (12 homers) and 17 walks while whiffing 31 batters in his first 63 1/3 innings for the Phillies this year.  On a bright note, he already has two complete games with one of them being a shutout!

UPDATE:  (8/20/2016) – Zach Eflin has underwent season ending surgery on his knee.

UPDATE:  (8/9/2016) – The Phillies have lost Brett Oberholtzer on waivers to the Los Angeles Angels.
