Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page,General,Injuries by joelapinski on Sunday 3 April 2016 at 7:07 pm

The Philadelphia Phillies have placed 30-year old lefty starting pitcher Matt Harrison on the 60-day disabled list, as he continues to recover from back surgery.  Harrison pitched in 3 games (all starts) for the Rangers last year and he was 1-2 with a 6.75 ERA and a 1.56 WHIP.  He has now pitched in 135 games (103 starts) in his first 8 years in the show and he is 50-35 with 2 saves, a 4.21 ERA and a 1.40 WHIP.  Harrison was an American League All-Star in 2008, and he finished 8th in the Cy Young voting that season.  Harrison came to the Phillies on July 31, 2015…as he was part of the return they got when they dealt Cole Hamels and Jake Diekman to the Rangers.  It will be a surprise if Harrison ever pitches for the Phillies.

The Philadelphia Phillies have placed 27-year old lefty reliever Mario Hollands on the 60-day disabled list, as he continues to recover from Tommy John surgery.  He missed the entire 2015 season.  Hollands pitched in 50 games (0 starts) for the Phillies in 2014 and he was 2-2 with a 4.40 ERA and a 1.40 WHIP.  Hollands should be able to come back late in 2016 for the Phillies, if his rehab continues to go well.

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page,General,Injuries by joelapinski on Sunday 3 April 2016 at 6:59 pm

The Philadelphia Phillies have placed 25-year old lefty swinging OF/3B Cody Asche on the 15-day disabled list due to a strained oblique muscle.  Asche played in 129 games for the Phillies last year and he was 104 of 425 (.245 avg, .689 OPS) with 41 runs scored, 12 homers, 39 RBIs and 1 stolen base.  He has now played in 300 games in his first three years with the Phillies and he is 242 of 984 (.246 avg, .693 OPS) with 102 runs scored, 27 homers, 107 RBIs and 2 stolen bases.  The Phillies hope that Asche won’t miss too much time, as they need all of the help that they can get.

The Philadelphia Phillies lose Aaron Altherr

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page,General,Injuries by joelapinski on Tuesday 8 March 2016 at 6:12 pm

The Philadelphia Phillies have lost 25-year old righty swinging outfielder Aaron Altherr for the next 4-6 months after he had left wrist surgery.  He played in 39 games for the Phillies last year and he was 33 of 137 (.241 avg, .827 OPS) with 25 runs scored, 5 homers, 22 RBIs and 6 stolen bases.  This is a huge blow to both Altherr and the Phillies, as he was penciled in as the starting RF for the 2016 season.  The loser of the competition in LF between Peter Bourjos and Cody Asche will likely be the frontrunner for the starting job in RF to start the 2016 season.  Tyler Goeddel and David Lough will also likely be in the competition to replace Altherr in RF.

UPDATE:  (4/2/2016) – The Philadelphia Phillies have placed Aaron Altherr on the 60-day disabled list to start the 2016 season.

The Phillies have shut down 29-year old righty starting pitcher Kyle Kendrick for the rest of the 2013 season due to right shoulder tendinitis.  Kendrick pitched in 30 games (all starts) for the Phillies in 2013 and he was 10-13 with a 4.70 ERA and a 1.40 WHIP.  He has now pitched in 194 games (153 starts) in his first seven years with the Phillies and he is 64-55 with a 4.38 ERA and a 1.37 WHIP.  The Phillies were smart to shut down Kendrick and protect his shoulder, as they aren’t playing for anything but pride right now.

The Philadelphia Phillies place Casper Wells on the D.L.

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page,General,Injuries by joelapinski on Monday 26 August 2013 at 1:04 pm

The Phillies have placed 28-year old righty swinging outfielder Casper Wells on the 15-day disabled list due to vision problems.  Wells has played in 11 games for the Phillies so far this year and he is 1 for 23 (.043 avg, .207 OPS) with 2 runs scored.  Wells has now played in 52 games for the A’s, White Sox and Phillies so far this year and he is 12 of 94 (.128 avg, .337 OPS) with 6 runs scored, 0 homers and 1 RBI.  This makes perfect sense, as Wells is a better player than he has shown so far this year.  Maybe he just needs glasses.

The Philadelphia Phillies place John Lannan on the D.L.

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page,General,Injuries by joelapinski on Friday 16 August 2013 at 12:17 pm

The Phillies have placed 28-year old lefty starting pitcher John Lannan on the 15-day disabled list due to a left knee injury.  Lannan has pitched in 14 games (all starts) for the Phillies overall this year and he is 3-6 with a 5.33 ERA and a 1.52 WHIP.  This might help explain how horrible Lannan was in August.  He started 3 games in August for the Phillies and he was 0-2 with a 12.66 ERA and a 2.53 WHIP.  Lannan gave up 17 hits (4 homers) and 10 walks while whiffing 4 batters in his 10 2/3 innings this month.
