John Mayberry is on fire with the bat for the Philadelphia Phillies right now

Blogged under Bloglockers, Front Page, General, Playing Well by chinmusic on Saturday 6 August 2011 at 8:43 am

27-year old righty swinging outfielder John Mayberry has been really hitting the ball well lately. In July and August, Mayberry is 19 for 61 (.311 avg) with 8 runs scored, 6 homers, 19 RBIs and 1 stolen base. Shane Victorino of the Philadelphia Phillies wins the Final Vote

Blogged under Bloglockers, Front Page, General, Playing Well by chinmusic on Thursday 7 July 2011 at 8:20 pm

30-year old switch-hitting CF Shane Victorino won MLB’s Final Vote, so he will be the fifth All-Star for the Phillies. The Flyin Hawaiian has played in 68 games for the Phillies so far this year and he is 81 for 267 (.303 avg, .900 OPS) with 53 runs scored, 9 homers, 34 RBIs and 13 stolen bases. This will be Victorino’s second All-Star appearance and he deserves it. His all out style is perfect for the city of Philadelphia as he’s sure to get his uniform dirty in next week’s All-Star Game.

UPDATE: (7/8/2011) - Shane Victorino will miss the All-Star Game as he has been placed on the 15-day disabled list due to a sprained right thumb. The Phillies have called up 32-year old lefty swinging infielder Pete Orr to replace Victorino on the active roster. Orr played in 26 games earlier this year for the Phillies and he was 14 for 61 (.230 avg, .577 OPS) with 5 runs scored, 0 homers, 3 RBIs and 1 stolen base.

The Philadelphia Phillies are sending a quartet to the All-Star Game

The Philadelphia Phillies will be sending a quartet of players to the All-Star Game next week. 35-year old righty swinging 3B Placido Polanco was elected by the fans, so he’s going to be the starting 3B. Polanco has played in 83 games for the Phillies so far this year and he is 88 for 321 (.274 avg, .676 OPS) with 34 runs scored, 4 homers, 39 RBIs and 3 stolen bases. He was the best of a very weak crop of 3B in the N.L. this year. 34-year old righty starting pitcher Roy Halladay will be making the trip to the All-Star Game. He has started 18 games for the Phillies so far this year and he is 11-3 with a 2.44 ERA and a 1.03 WHIP. 32-year old lefty Cliff Lee will be heading out west next week too. Lee has started 18 games for the Phillies so far this year and he is 9-6 with a 2.92 ERA and a 1.08 WHIP. 27-year old Cole Hamels rounds out the Phillies’ contingent heading to the All-Star Game as he is having by far the best year of his career. Hamels has started 18 games for the Phillies so far this year and he is 10-4 with a 2.40 ERA and a 0.95 WHIP. I’m surprised that Ryan Howard didn’t get picked but the Phillies will still be represented well at the All-Star Game.

Raul Ibanez is on fire with the bat in May for the Philadelphia Phillies

Blogged under Bloglockers, Front Page, General, Playing Well by chinmusic on Saturday 28 May 2011 at 9:22 am

38-year old lefty starting LF Raul Ibanez looked awful in April, but he has been like gangbusters with the bat so far in May for the Phillies. Ibanez has played in 24 games so far in May and he is 30 for 93 (.323 avg, .921 OPS) with 15 runs scored, 5 homers and 15 RBIs. He has not been picky either as he has only walked 3 times while whiffing 13 times. Ibanez has now played in 48 games for the Phillies so far this year and he is 44 for 180 (.244 avg, .700 OPS) with 25 runs scored, 6 homers and 25 RBIs. The Phillies need Ibanez’ bat to stay hot.

Jimmy Rollins is stepping up for the Philadelphia Phillies

Blogged under Bloglockers, Front Page, General, Playing Well by chinmusic on Tuesday 17 May 2011 at 12:29 pm

32-year old switch hitting starting shortstop Jimmy Rollins had a rough year for the Phillies last year. He only played in 88 games for the Phillies in 2010 and he was 85 for 350 (.243 avg, .694 OPS) with 48 runs scored, 8 homers, 41 RBIs and 17 stolen bases. This year has been a different story so far for Rollins as he has stayed healthy. Rollins has played in 40 games for the Phillies so far this year and he is 45 for 163 (.276 avg, .729 OPS) with 24 runs scored, 2 homers, 11 RBIs and 8 stolen bases. With all of the injuries the Phillies have suffered this year, Rollins has really stepped up when they needed him. The Phillies hope he can stay healthy the rest of the year.

Placido Polanco is really ripping the baseball this year for the Philadelphia Phillies

Blogged under Bloglockers, Front Page, General, Playing Well by chinmusic on Monday 9 May 2011 at 3:42 pm

Last year, 34-year old righty swinging 3B Placido Polanco struggled through injuries. He played in 132 games for the Phillies last year and he was 165 of 554 (.298 avg, .726 OPS) with 76 runs scored, 6 homers, 52 RBIs and 5 stolen bases. But, so far this year, Polanco has been healthy and he’s making up for lost time. Polanco has played in 33 games for the Phillies so far this year and he is 48 for 131 (.366 avg, .884 OPS) with 19 runs scored, 2 homers, 23 RBIs and 3 stolen bases. He has only whiffed 7 times this season while walking only 7 times. So not only is he hacking away but he’s hitting everything. The Phillies hope that Polanco can stay healthy as this was the version of him they thought they were getting when they signed him two winters ago.
